Dr. Lena SalaymehSenior Scholar

Lena Salaymeh researches and teaches Islamic and Jewish jurisprudence in both historical and contemporary legal systems. Much of her scholarship explores implicit and explicit relationship between Islamic, Jewish, and Christian understandings of law, identity, and governance. Her book, The Beginnings of Islamic Law: Late Antique Islamicate Legal Cultures (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming) illustrates inter-religious dynamics through case studies on the relationship between Jewish and Islamic legal traditions. Her previous publications include pieces in Law and History Review, Journal of Legal Education, UC Irvine Law Review, Islam and Christian–Muslim Relations, and The Immanent Frame. Salaymeh also writes and speaks on the politics of knowledge production in Islamic studies.
