Dr. Adam AftermanSenior Scholar

Dr. Adam Afterman has served as a Senior Lecturer in the Tel Aviv University Department of Hebrew Culture Studies since 2010. His main fields of research are Medieval Jewish philosophy, Kabbalah, and Jewish mysticism.

His most recent book, Devequt: Mystical Intimacy in medieval Jewish Thought (Los Angeles 2011), offers an extensive study of the idea of intimacy and communion with God across a broad spectrum of philosophical and mystical Jewish sources.

Dr. Afterman studies Jewish thought in its broader Muslim and Christian contexts and explores how medieval Judaism was transformed in detailed response to philosophy and Muslim and Christian high culture. Dr. Afterman is active in the field of academic interreligious research and study in Israel and abroad.
