The Center for Russian and East European Studies was founded in 1971 by one of the most prominent Israeli historians, Prof. Michael Confino (1926-2010). In 1990 the Center’s activity was considerably expanded thanks to the generous donation of Jack Cummings of Montreal, former Chairman of the Board of Governors and a prominent benefactor of the University.
In the course of its over forty years of existence the CummingsCenter became the hub of research on Russia and Eastern-Central Europe at Tel Aviv University and an integral part o the international community of Slavic Studies. The Cummings Center’s academic staff includes experts on Russian and Slavic history, literature and languages. Their research explores the social and cultural life of the fascinating region where, among others, the founding fathers of the State of Israel were born.
