The Chaim Weizmann Institute for the Study of Zionism and Israel, at the Chaim Rosenberg School of Jewish Studies and the Lester and Sally Entin Faculty of Humanities, was established in 1962 as the first research institute at Tel Aviv University. The Institute is devoted to advancing scholarly research of the Zionist idea, the Zionist movement, the Yishuv (Jewish community in Palestine), and the State of Israel, from a multidisciplinary approach and a critical perspective.

Its main activities include:

1.  publishing two Peer-reviewed academic journals:

         Israel: Studies in Zionism and the State of Israel – History, Society, Culture,
          which appears in Hebrew.
         The Journal of Israeli History: Politics, Society, Culture, which appears in English.
 
2.  publishing books and document collections.
 
 
4.  organizing academic conferences, open to the public.
 
5.   the research forums:
  • the Young Scholars Forum, in which doctoral and post-doctoral students from all institutions   of higher education whose research focuses on Israel past and present, take part.
